I recently upgraded to a high end TT and installed a cartridge. Still I was not sure that eyemesurement was enough. So I bought the alignment block and it could show that it was spot on. My new TT is easy to adjust right, but still, it takes time because you have to consider if it's right from a lot of angels. It looks different if you close one eye, raise your head ect. With the block I'm 100% sure it's right. My former hi-fi TT could also be adjusted in VTA and Azimuth but didn't have numbers or markings. And I think the alignment block would have been even more helpful here. My hi-fi system are "set and forget". Here it's nice that the alignment block are acryl that you can keep away for years and just take it out when I need a new cartridge or TT. I use an analog precision cartridge weight for the same reason. So one might think it's a lot of money for a little acrylic block one would use a few times over many years, but when you do need it, it's nice to get that measurement just right and make your records sound best as possible.
