Pro-Ject X1/X2 Aluminium Sub Platter

The Alu Upgrade Sub Platter transforms your turntable to the next level. The diamond cut aluminium sub-platter can be machined to much improved and higher tolerances and is a substantial upgrade to regular sub-platters. By adding more mass to the entire platter and drive system, this results in additional damping of noise and unwanted resonances. The improved tolerances during production will increase overall speed accuracy. The additional mass improves the short-term speed stability, also known as Wow & Flutter.

Just what I expected, at a great price!

This platter was out of stock in the US and was happy to find it at Analogue Seduction priced the same or slightly lower than what I would have paid. Arrived in reasonable time, and worked flawlessly (not sure I could make out any appreciable improvement in sound). Solid platter overall compared to the mostly plastic one shipped with my X2.

Transformation or Upgrade?

To call this a mere upgrade does not do it justice. It has transformed the sound in every department. Tighter and deeper bass. Richer midband and extended highs. It works superbly well with the fitted Ortofon/Pro-ject cartridge which before sounded a tad on the bright side.
I don't pretend to understand the science behind this but can assure anyone it really does make a positive difference. A huge one.

This also fits the Pro-Ject 1-Xpression III, which I'm using it with to great results.
Combined with the acrylic platter the aluminium sub-platter adds some stability and calm to the turntables output - the additional weight is no doubt helping it to run a little smoother and further reduce any 'frequency wobble'.

Not only is it a thing of beauty, it’s got weight to it. Sound has definitely improved, cleaner low frequencies & the speed of my platter is absolutely spot on. Would recommend.
