Ok this prevents contamination of the rubber band from hand contact but the light weight plastic key is fiddly to use.
In practise the rubber band is just as likely to ping off the 'wheel' with the key as with manual handling.
I think the lesson is get a deck with a switch to change the speed rather than the gosh-darn Pro-Ject Elemental

I had lost my original speed key to move the belt on my Music Hall turntable. I have read articles that using your fingers to do this can degrade the belt on my belt-driven turntable. I ordered this from Analogue Seduction and it arrived in about 6 days (mind you, I am in the United States). Anyway the tool works perfectly and the shipping time was excellent.
