It arrived well packaged and in perfect condition. Having carefully read the instructions, I removed it from it's box. There was a minor problem with a thin piece of clear acetate plastic that they had used head factory fitted as extra protection it it was between the stylist unit and the cartridge body itself. I mention this because I have never experienced this in the quite a few cartridge use that I have unpackaged in my time. It's not an anyway a problem it's just that I was surprised by it that's all and I am sure it provides extra protection during transit.

The installation went easily and well l8 uses the old-fashioned fixing points so you have to use a nut and bolt to secure it to the headshell through the channels provided on either side of its body. Not a problem at all for me.

Once setup I put it through its paces.
Attracts really well l&q gives a sweet and room filling soundstage. If the pressing in the mastering of the record you are listening to is top-quality than that is what you will hear. It's compares extremely well too far more expensive cartridges I have heard on my system. It runs smoothly through the grooves leaving hardly any surface noise. Advantage of a moving magnet as well is that you can simply replace the stylus when it becomes worn without the need to remove the body from the headshell meaning that you don't have to go through the whole process of resetting up a new cartridge.

I am enjoying using this cartridge very much and it is giving me a detailed and revealing presentation of my whole record collection. I would certainly recommend it to anybody who likes to listen to vinyl.

Purchased this cartridge to fit to my Rega planar 3 which had the standard Rega elys 2 fitted. Fitting can be fiddily but once installed the sound quality upgrade is without doubt, highly recommend.

The VM740ML is an excellent MM cart with a typical modern AT MM sound, detailed and slightly bright (but not etched) with unparalleled tracking and sibilant handling, if your speakers are slightly warmish sounding the AT can be an excellent match.

Rating:

High quality build and finish. As with the other cartridges from the new VM line, the tracking force has been increased for better compatibility with common medium-mass tonearms. The rest of the design and look are traditional for AT MM cartridges.
Sound: transparent, fatigue-free, with good dynamics and lots of details. Unlike some previous AT designs, there is no unwanted HF lift-up. The cartridge never sounds too bright or harsh. My opinion - very good and recommended product.
