My Sonic Lab Eminent Solo (Mono) MC Cartridge
The MSL Solo is a superb mono cartridge using the same engine as the highly regarded Eminent. This is an excellent choice for those collectors of classic mono recordings. Like all MSL cartridges the Eminent Solo is characterised by an extremely low impedance (1.2 Ω) and a high output level of 0.4 mV, which has been achieved using very strong neodymium magnets in conjunction with the MSL specially developed coil core material SH-μX.
Today’s high energy magnets cannot be used as the magnetic saturation of pole piece and material interferes so the saturation flux density characteristics have been augmented. This has led My Sonic Lab to design a high-efficiency magnetic circuitry.
Exhausting R&D and contributions from a magnetic material specialist resulted in a development of a revolutionary high-µ core material which they named SH-µX. The SH-µX has high saturation flux density of 2.5 times and initial permeability of more than 3 times the conventional JIS PC material , bringing unprecedented high-efficiency magnetic characteristics.
Eminent MC Cartridge uses Neodymium #50 magnet with no magnetic saturation interference and thus remarkably reducing the number of coils wound, reducing the resistance to a minimum (1.8Ω internal impedance), while it’s high output voltage (0.5mV) makes it possible to reproduce an unparallelled energy sensation and detailed high resolutions throughout the entire spectrum of audio bandwidth.
The stylus tip is a semi-line contact type, with a short radius of 3µmm and a long radius of 30µmm. This design ensures accurate tracking even in record grooves with delicate amplitude variations. The elliptical design also increases contact surface area for best stylus alignment, and reduces the incidence of miss-tracking caused by the pinch effect. And since the use of super Hi-µ, SH-µX material reduces the number of coil windings, an unusual thickness of 45µmm are used along with direct silver solder to polished rhodium-plated pins.
