Ortofon ST-80 SE Moving Coil Step Up Transformer

With the ST-80 SE, Ortofon have expanded on their successful step-up transformer range in a great sounding, beautiful looking way.

This newly designed MC-transformer delivers a detailed reproduction with a touch of warmth, accompanied by a full-bodied sound quality. Compared with existing models, Ortofon's ST-80 SE has a larger bobbin, more layers in the permalloy core and more coil windings.

The transformer is magnetically shielded in a permalloy case, which in turn is inserted into a robust 10mm thick aluminum cylinder bored out of a solid aluminum block. Together with the heavy metal case the transformer effectively isolates against environmental noise. The stability of the transformer is also superb, thanks to its substantial weight of 1.5kg, ensuring it stays in place even when cables are attached.

The ST-80 SE is built as a pure dual-mono model, which ensures maximum channel separation.

Internal point-to-point wiring is made by Teflon insulated, solid-core pure OFC copper-wire plated with gold. Together with high-quality gold-plated RCA jacks with Teflon insulation that ensures the optimum signal transmission and integrity.

The ST-80 SE will be a perfect match to most high-quality MC cartridges, such as Ortofon's Cadenza series, their range of SPUs, and flagship MC Windfeld, Xpression and MC Anna models.

Incredible upgrade

Never used any SUT until a few weeks ago. After discovering how good they are i pulled the trigger on the ST-80 SE.
I previously used Ortofon Windfeld ti through a Dynavector P-75...in MC mode, then even better in PE mode. I picked up an ST-7 for a good price and was blown away with the improvement. Instantly decided to get the ST-80 SE....Well..its incredible. Can't believe what I've missed over the last 30 years with SUT's. Bass through the floor. No distortion in upper registers. Huge soundstage. Layer upon layer of detail,so much so that it can be overwhelming!! It is a colossal difference. Get a demo of this box-you will not be disappointed. (Plugged into MM setting on Dynavector P-75...Needed 3 earth wires to mute hum completely.). FABULOUS.
