Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 Moving Coil Cartridge

New phono cartirdge replacing the admired Blue Point No. 2
Sound refinement of an MC with the output voltage of a typical MM design
Low-resonance body that's easy to install to any common tonearm

Oyster Series

Recently, Sumiko made the decision to explore the resonance optimisation of the Blue Point No. 2 as they recognised there was room for refinement for this well-established cartridge. Resonance has a more significant impact than many listeners realise and Sumiko wanted to reimagine how the housing resonates around the generator in the Blue Point range. This resulted in the arrival of the new Blue Point No. 3.

With the tried and true moving cartridge generator system, the smoothness is enhanced with the subtlety and nuance you’d expect from a Sumiko moving cartridge. Blue Point No. 3 assembles its sonic picture from the ground up with its low-end response. Full and warm yet defined and textured, the cosiness of the bass will invite you right in. In addition to this, you can expect a similar richness through the mids that remain decipherable, high-frequency attack and decay that’s simply sweet and airy.

Having developed such a refinement on a classic design, introducing both a high and low output variant was a no-brainer. As strongly as we admire the Blue Point No. 3 High, the Blue Point No. 3 Low is a game changer. Owners of moving cartridge phono stages can experience the same audio experience mentioned, but with the depth and imaging typical of a low-output design. Similar to its predecessors, Blue Point No. 3 remains a high-value performer that is affordable and with the introduction of Blue Point No. 3 Low, there’s a Blue Point for everyone.

Sumiko Blue Point No. 3
01 September 2024  |

I've lost count of the number of Sumiko cartridges I've had in recent years, dating from before Blue Point no.2. I've always liked their warm sound and the No.3 is well up to standard. I particularly like the integral threading for the fixing screws. At his price, highly recommended.
