ORB DF-01iA + High-end Audio Vinyl LP Record Flattener

THERE ARE SOME LP RECORDS THAT ARE IRREPLACEABLE.

THE ORB VINYL LP FLATTENER IS THE ANSWER.

This flattener now supports (7″, 10″ and 12″) vinyl records

The DF01iA+ adds two features: it supports “flat records”, or records without “groove guard” raised edges. It also comes with adapters to make placing 7″,10″ and 12" records easier.

For the average consumer, with decent eyes, the adapters are nice extras, but not indispensable. Further, the vast majority of records have raised edges.

Music fans around the world love the warm and natural sound of analogue vinyl records. Unfortunately, with long-term storage of vinyl records comes shape distortion that can make your old records sound far from what they should. And even a slightly warped record might still be playable, the added pressure from the stylus will damage the groove adding noise and unnecessary wear that eventually could damage the disc. This innovative audio accessory Orb DF-01i allows you to correct the warps and avoid shape distortion and wear

Imagine if you could repair  the warp on that otherwise valuable or favourite record. Now you can.

The Orb Disc Flattener uses a unique heating technique which is applied with two  semiconductor heater films, one on the top and one on the bottom. By thermally  controlling the heating-up phase and cooling-down phase, the warped record is  allowed to properly relax and return to its original flat state.

The machine heats only the outer edge and centre of the record. The grooves are  not  heated and therefore their sonic shape is preserved.

The entire process takes four hours; two to heat up and two to cool down.

"The Disc Flatterner Model DF-01i was definitely one product I thought the  world did not need. Boy was I wrong on that. This is a must have unit for  anyone with an extensive record collection...The machine is absolutely  brilliant...At this stage, I've comfortably flattened 50+ records and no longer  give it a second thought. I have NO problems with the unit and not one record

Solidly built Japanese made. Impressive on storage warps and new factory dished records.

Doesn't work on heat warps.

Expensive but worth it.

I have a fairly large record collection with a good number of warped or dished examples. Some of which are fairly rare and together would cost considerably more than the Orb DF-01IA+ to replace.
Despite knowing the weight and dimensions before purchase in the flesh it's surprisingly big and heavy. Very nicely built and no doubt will provide many years of service.
I chose to pay a bit extra for the '+' model which includes grove protectors for 7",10" & 12" records. Their not strictly needed for most records but I believe they gave some extra protection for some of the weaker compounds.
Some people in the past have complained about the lack of instructions in English. The Orb is now shipped with a fully detailed English manual plus a handy quick reference card.

So far with 1 exception I've successfully flattened around 50 records which were either dished or warped. All ranging from lightweight to 200gram, colour & pictured. The medium heat setting is fine for most black vinyl, for picture, coloured and thin vinyl the low setting works great.
The only failed attempt as such was a very severely warped LP. The ORB did it's job in completely flattening the record, however too much damage had been caused by the warping. Whilst now playable the record is egg shaped causing the tonearm some side to side movement.

Overall I'm extremely happy. I've improved £1000's worth of records plus it's taken away some of the anxiety of future purchases. The only negative point being this unit can not be stored vertically. There are parts protruding on all four edges plus its sheer weight makes this impossible.

Top notch

Stunning. Nothing dampens a new vinyl purchase than a warp… even the mildest of warps can be an irritation. The Orb has one job, and it does it so SO well. Just shy of £1500, you may ask if it presents good value for money. And rightly so, because how many LP’s will £1500 buy you. And I um’d and Ahh’d over this exact dilemma for a few days before eventually pulling the trigger on this. And I’m so glad I did. It is by far the best purchase this year. It. Just. Works.
Completely fuss free, just like the retail experience here with Analogue Seduction. Amazing.

Yes, it looks like Darth Vader’s trouser press.. but it’s consistent results elevate it to being a “must have” product if you are serious about your vinyl playback.

it works!
25 December 2020  |

It's basic, simple and it works! Some records were hardly playable anymore because of the warp, but they'r flat again. Flat records make my world turn round. Flat Records was also the name of the first record store where I worked, but this is a bit off topic. Recommended!

So far very pleased with the item and the service provided. I have found the best setting to use when starting is the Lower setting, this setting seems to solve most problems for LP's and 12". I haven't tried 7" yet so can't give an opinion. Easy to use a must have bit of kit if you sell or have a large collection.

A necessary tool. Does exactly what it says: flattens vinyl. Whether an old uncared for LP or a new purchase with an annoying warp - this is the solution.
